Daniel Molenkamp
Dan’s strength in technical drawing and building construction has contributed to many of PCA’s most notable retail and residential projects.
Dan feels that some of the most rewarding problems to solve exist in the rehabilitation of buildings, requiring the evaluation and modification of existing components to meet budget, industry standards, life-cycle, and performance goals. All of this, of course, while maintaining an appealing design, practical constructability and cost efficiency. He believes that the design process should be inclusive and mindful of all within a community, with the ultimate goal of maximizing the positives.

My earliest design memory I took three years of drafting in high school and my interest in architecture started there. I still have drawings of a house I designed back then.

A project I’m proud of I would like to say all of them because having that sense of accomplishment at the end of the day is important to me. If I have to pick just one, it would be Legacy Place in Dedham, MA. It's sheer size, variety of buildings, diversity of tenant types and project duration, combined with the code/technical challenges, made this a memorable project.

Building or place I wish I designed Probably some of the ancient architecture such as the pyramids or the Roman Colosseum. Mostly because I am curious about all of the forgotten techniques and details used to construct them without the aid of modern equipment or software. It would amazing to have a design survive the test of time like that as well.

I’m inspired by curiosity, whether it is satisfying my own or sharing knowledge in response to others' questions.

On Saturday mornings, you can usually find me working on some sort of household project. Although if the tide is right, I grab my waders and rake and get some clams and/or oysters.

Quote that guides me right now "No matter where you go, there you are," originally credited to Confucius. It is a reminder to deal with challenges head on, as escaping from oneself is not really an option.

If I could snap my fingers and become an expert in something, I would be a magician or illusionist. I enjoy watching them but am usually scratching my head and asking how is that possible? This would help me answer so many questions.
