It’s Time to Act

PCA is committed to partnering with local organizations to create racial and economic justice.

Please join us by supporting:
Embrace Boston

Over the years, PCA has consistently engaged in community causes through volunteer activism, financial contributions and industry professional groups supporting the underrepresented.

We established the PCA Foundation in 2021, solidifying a mission reflecting who we are, what we care about and who we partner with to create change in very specific areas. Here’s what we’ve been focusing on in the community.

ACE Mentor Program

The ACE Mentor Program provides students the opportunity to pursue careers in architecture, engineering and construction through mentoring and support from the local architecture, construction and engineering industry (ACE). Over 75% of ACE participants are students of color, with slightly more than half female and about half from families with economic challenges. PCA team members devote time as volunteer mentors, working in tandem with peers from across the Boston area AEC industry giving a hands-on, project-based introduction to careers in the design and building industry through classroom and in-the-field sessions.

Volunteering as mentors and teachers, our staff have the opportunity to engage, excite and enlighten high school students from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in architecture, engineering and construction through mentoring and support for their advancement into our industry.

PCA Associate and Interior Designer Janine Byrne leads the ACE Mentor Program onsite here in our office. Once a week, the students arrive to work with PCA mentors and other local designers to complete a yearlong project. Pizza adds energy to the evening as design activities get underway. Students are given the space, tools and teachers to develop an architectural project from conceptual design to design development culminating with a presentation at the end of the year. College scholarships are given to graduating high school students and a celebration of everyone’s accomplishments takes place.

Builders of Color Coalition

PCA supports Boston’s Builders of Color Coalition (BCC), an organization creating inclusivity and opportunities for minority businesses and professionals in the real estate industry. The coalition includes developers, architects, engineers, attorneys, contractors, bankers and investors, etc. owning, leading and working in varying companies and organizations across the city.

As a sponsor, we are provided access to the BCC membership and network where we seek architects, designers and collaborators to join the PCA team and to develop partnerships.

On The Rise

On the Rise (OTR) is a Cambridge, MA-based support, advocacy and resource organization focusing on women, transgender and non-binary communities. OTR is critical to these communities when other agencies deem their services inaccessible due to strict requirements to receive assistance. PCA’s Laura Portney is a board member and an active volunteer who believes that, “everyone is worthy of whatever they need.” She continually motivates her PCA and industry colleagues and friends to donate, attend events and spread the word on the good works that happen at On the Rise.

Each year On The Rise hosts the Empty Bowls Project – a grassroots fundraising event to raise awareness and support to address homelessness among women and transgender/non-binary individuals. Look out for this event and join us! We’ll be there.

Habitat for Humanity

PCA is always excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity. We are both on the same page when it comes to the importance of affordable housing for supporting families in need and building communities. This past year, we worked with the Essex County site location to renovate a family home in this region.

Our Foundation continues to support Habitat for Humanity and rally the PCA team to pitch in!

PCA has been working with Habitat for Humanity Essex County, formerly North Shore, for over 10 years. PCA Associate Jeff Gannon AIA,LEED GA has been successfully leading our group of volunteers with 6 pro bono design and building projects to date. Check out our recent volunteer day with the PCA team in Lawrence MA.
