  • Do you have any nicknames, if so, what are they?  I do have a few nicknames, but the one that my friends use the most is "bk."

  • I’m from  a small town called Roscoe, Illinois. It's about an hour west of Chicago and 5 minutes from the Wisconsin border.

  • List your education  BS in Architectural Studies from The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and an M. Arch from the Boston Architectural College

  • Any community service?  I have coached different levels of Little League baseball/softball in the town of Reading for the past 12 years.

  • Why PCA?  PCA is built for longevity. A longevity through its willingness to be flexible and change with the times, while still maintaining its high standards in design, client relations and employee quality of work life.

  • My earliest architectural / interior design memory  When I was about 10 years old, my younger brother and I would take graph paper and draw up plans for mansions and then imagine what it would be like to live in those homes. They would have pools, race tracks, basketball courts, etc., your typical home necessities.

  • I’m drawn to design because  I love the idea of creating spaces and moments that induce an emotional response or connection for the people moving through and residing within those spaces.

  • Describe your favorite space  The threshold between spaces. Moving between one space to the next while creating an anticipation of what is yet to come. Crossing through or turning a corner reveals a grand space that is enhanced through the journey between the spaces.

  • A place that has affected me is  The Modern Art Museum Fort Worth by Tadao Ando and the Milwaukee Art Museum - Quadracci Pavilion by Santiago Calatrava.

  • Materials that excite me are  I've always been drawn towards more modern architecture. Specifically, the minimalist modern use of concrete, steel and glass by Mies Van de Rohe or the use of concrete and light by Tadao Ando.

  • What's the most inspiring part of your job?  Having the opportunity to create spaces that inspire and enhance the experience for the end user.

  • On Saturday mornings, you can usually find me.  Spending time with my wife and three kids. Either hanging out around the house, coaching one of my kids in baseball, softball, soccer, flag football, etc., or making a quick donut run before the kids get up.

  • What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?  I love playing video games. It's something that I grew up doing and now I can connect with my kids while jumping into a Minecraft world or playing an old retro game that I've introduced them to over the years.

  • SketchUp or Revit?  Revit for sure! Sketchup is no slouch, but I'm learning new things about what Revit can do every day. It's ability to create a virtual model of your structure, while also being able to produce the working drawings that can be used to take the virtual model and make it a real building pushes it above and beyond Sketchup.

  • On my playlist:  I'm still stuck in the 90s. System of a Down, Alice in Chains, Tool, Slipknot to name a few.

  • Quote that guides me right now:  "Be water, my friend" - Bruce Lee

"Anything worth doing, is worth doing right." - Hunter S. Thompson (specifically Johnny Depp as Hunter S. Thompson in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas")

  • A secret talent that no one knows about  I can solve a scrambled Rubix cube. Not necessarily quickly, but I can eventually solve it.

  • What would be your personal motto?  No worries, it's all good.

  • The most fulfilling thing I've done  Becoming a father, hands down.
